1) LOCATION AND DATES

·         The event will take place on Saturday, 13th, 20th and 27th of November. Each competition will begin at eight o'clock, in the Municipal House of Culture located in Plaza Domingo Álvarez Acebal in Avilés. The performance schedule for each choir will be determined, if necessary, by ballot, to be held on Monday, September 13th, at eight o´clock in the rehearsal room. Each choir will be sent  the date of their performance with sufficient notice.

2) PARTICIPANTS:

·         Only non-professional choirs of mixed voices or chamber choirs, either from Spain or abroad, who have completed the prerequisites for registration may enter. The participating mixed choirs will be composed of a minimum number of 16 members and a maximum of 50, all of whom aged 16 or older.

·         The Organization of the Contest limits to twelve the maximum number of choirs participating.

·         If the number of choirs inscribed exceeds the maximum number of participants determined by the Organization, the Technical Committee of the Contest will select the participants by the following criteria: history, repertoire, recordings and any additional relevant information that it may have about the choirs. The choir(s) not selected will be notified as soon as possible.

 3) Programme

·         The choirs participating in this contest must perform four compulsory songs. Performances must be strictly a capella. The scores of freely chosen songs should be forwarded to the Organization in sixfold ( 6) vertically without erasures and / or amendments and clear enough for use and handling by the jury, before the closing date of registration.

·         The performance time of the four songs must not exceed 25 minutes and must be sung in the following order:

a.        Compulsory son: "Ayer Vite en la Fonte" de Antolín de la Fuente

b.       A representative song of the region of the choir.

c.        Two freely chosen songs.   

d.       An optional song: at the end of the four compulsory songs, the choirs, who wish, can optionally perform the song “El día que te vi.” (Bolero-Cha-Cha-Cha) music and lyrics by Enrique Lows and harmonization by Gonzalo Casielles Camblor. This song is necessary to be eligible for the special "Maria Cuenca" award.

4) PRIZES

The organization of the Contest  has  established the following awards:

 There will not be ex-aequo prizes.  

 The organizing committee is not responsible for any tax implications that may result from the prizes.

5) REGISTRATION

The deadline to register to take part in this contest is Monday, September 13th , 2010.

 In addition to the signed, sealed and fully completed registration form, you  must also send:

a)       The choir curriculum.

b)       The curriculum of the Conductor.

c)       CD recording of some recent performances

d)       2 color photos of the group.

e)       Six copies without erasures or corrections of the songs to be performed.

f)        180 € for registration  (Send the money by money order to PO Box No 762) (this fee will be refunded in full on the day of performance)

6) JURY EVALUATION

·          On 27th November, at the end of the performances, the Jury’s decision will be announced and the awards will be presented for the XXVII edition of the International Competition Villa de Avilés. If any of the choirs who participated before this date are unable to attend, then a member of the Coral Avilesina must be designated to collect the prize on their behalf.

·          The choirs will be informed of the names of the Jury members.

·          The Jury´s decision is final and will be made public at the end of the performances of the last day.

·          The Jury will ensure the compliance of the rules.

·          The jury will not maintain correspondence, except clarifications in the case of any reasonable doubt, with any of the participating choirs.

·          The Jury may declare void any of the prizes.

·          If any winning choir is unable to collect their award, then postage costs will be borne by said choir.

·          The Jury will score from 0 to 10 the performance of each song taking into account:

-          Quality and difficulty of the program presented.

-          Tune/pitch

-          Vocal timbre.

-          Dynamic interpretation and artistic expression.

 7) EXPENSES

The Organization of the Contest offers participants these alternatives:

-          Choirs whose round trip exceeds 1,000 km will be paid mileage expenses of 1,000 euros.

-          Choirs whose round trip is less than 1,000 km will be paid mileage expenses of 1euro per kilometre,  or should they wish, may opt for free participation in the Dinner Dance on the day of their performance.

-          Chamber Choirs (up to 20 components) will be paid  0.60 euros per km (600 euros in the case of a more than 1,000 mile round trip, or may opt to exchange their expenses for a less than 1000 km round trip return for participation in the dinner-dance on the day of their performance).

-          Choirs coming from abroad will be paid 1 euro per kilometre, from the Spanish border, and the cost of a full day's stay at the hotel.

-          Choirs from the Balearic Islands, Ceuta or Melilla, will receive the mileage expenses from the port of entry and departure in the Peninsula (up to a maximum of 1000 €).

-          The Organization will pay for hotel accommodation and breakfast on the day of the choir’s performance when the distance from their place of origin to Aviles is over 200 km. In addition, they will be paid 1 euro per km or, as stated above as, may use the expenses in exchange for their participation in the dinner-dance on the day of their performance.

- In the case of round trips of less than 200km, the Organization will pay 1 euro per kilometre or choirs may exchange the expenses for dinner.

 

Mileage is considered as the shortest route by roads or highways.

8) FINAL PROVISIONS

The registration fee of 180 euros will be sent by money order to PO box 762 before the draw, which will take place on Monday 13th September.

This fee will be refunded on the day of their participation in the competition. The Organization reserves the right to edit any recorded live performance.

The Organization reserves the right, after consultation with the Jury, to ammend any of the competition conditions. Any ammendment(s) will be immediately notified.

The participating choirs must not perform any of their four programmed songs in public in the 2 days before the competition.

The Organization will only disclose the winning choirs´ scores to participating choirs.
